Building Curtilage

As a supplementary service to our design advocacy service, Alexander Urbanism designs buildings curtilage, both within the lot boundary and immediately adjacent to it.

A case in point was the design we completed of a building curtilage for a proposed major apartment building in a suburban town centre. As well as advising our client on the proposed built form and façade treatment, we designed the footpaths within and in front of the lot.

This was a simple streetscape design exercise. The major issues were:
  • retention of a lovely large and old Eucalyptus tree growing on the corner
  • the level changes around the tree
  • achieving a simple and robust design
  • drainage, and
  • being in keeping with recent other footpath work across the street.
